How to Wake Surf – A Beginner’s Guide

June 10, 2025
Ride the endless wave with tips, gear, and Nautical Boat Club support.

Wake surfing is one of the most exciting and accessible watersports out there — and with Nautical Boat Club, it’s easy to get started. We provide the boat, the boards, and even the coaching to help you ride your first wave.

Step-by-Step Wake Surfing Basics

  1. Choose the right board – We have beginner-friendly wakesurf boards included with your membership.
  2. Set the rope – The captain will set a short surf rope for your comfort and safety.
  3. Start in the water – Place your heels on the board and lean back slightly as the boat accelerates.
  4. Stand slowly – Once you’re on the wave, toss the rope back into the boat.
  5. Find your balance – Shift weight to your front foot to speed up, back foot to slow down.

Nautical Advantage
Our staff meets you at the slip or gas dock to load your board, help you push off, and provide tips before you head out. After your ride, we’re right there to help pull you back in — stress-free and safe.

Safety & Comfort Tips

  • Always wear a U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jacket.
  • Keep a spotter onboard to watch the rider.
  • Start with shorter rides to build stamina.
