Explore Georgia’s largest lake with 38,000 acres of water and 700 miles of shoreline.

Lake Lanier is the largest lake in Georgia, created in 1956 when the Buford Dam was built across the Chattahoochee River. The reservoir covers roughly 38,000 acres of water and offers more than 700 miles of shoreline. With those numbers, it’s easy to see why the Lanier Islands area is a boater’s paradise.

Visitors can enjoy fishing, swimming, tubing and countless other watersports. Numerous marinas around the lake provide slips, fuel and supplies, and waterfront restaurants serve everything from casual burgers to upscale dining. Beyond the water, Lanier Islands offers golf, hiking and beautiful resort amenities.

Things to do on Lake Lanier:

  • Spend a day exploring the lake’s coves and islands; with 700 miles of shoreline there’s always a new beach to find.
  • Stop at one of the many lakeside restaurants or marinas for lunch and fuel.
  • Try wakeboarding or tubing behind one of our club boats.
  • Enjoy the sunset from the deck of a pontoon while watching fishermen reel in striped bass and catfish.
